Downtown InfoShopThe InfoShop is OPIRG Brock’s second home, some might call it our summer home as it is now located at 10 Summer Street in St.Catharines, Ontario. It is an off-campus alternative community center located near the heart of the city, where we are needed most. Downtown space allows the OPIRG of Brock to be more accessible to both students living off campus as well as members from the community. The info shop is used as a resource for information about social and environmental activism, local community assistance outlet information, volunteer organization, workshop space, a zine library, working group information and a resource for activist art. COMMUNITYThe main focus of the InfoShop is to facilitate positive community relationships and act as a platform for organization. It is a space that provides information and resources for humans looking to get involved in local activism and gives support to those looking to start new social and environmental projects. On top of facilitating activism the OPIRG at Brock and its info shop provide information about community services including as Health care, Ontario Works, Sexual Health care, Shelters, Community Care ect. EDUCATIONEach month the info shop will highlight a different important issue. These issues are often ones being addressed by our working groups. We will have on display related educational materials (books, journals, films ect.) that can be accessed by the public during open hours. In our library we have a vast collection of magazines, articles, and government documents on a range of issues that can be accessed by members (students and community) without additional fees. The InfoShop will also be used as a safe and free space to share knowledge, and can be booked for workshops during the day. ACTIONThe InfoShop is a central hub for activism, on all of the issues OPIRG working groups combat. We have a collection of resources and knowledgeable staff to help facilitate activism. We are open weekdays, and have friendly staff and volunteers that can answer any appropriate questions, or help you to use our resources, or book the space for a workshop. ARTThe InfoShop is also a place to learn and make art and DIY projects related to creating positive change. We can help out with poster and 'zine making, silk-screening and stenciling for use in advertising activist events. CONTACT US: opirginfoshop@gmail.com or 905-359-4196 |
