BACKGROUND
The provincial government is forcing cuts by their decision to fund hospitals at less than the rate of inflation and less than other Canadian provinces ($1.2 billion less). It is very important that Jim Bradley our local Member of Provincial Parliament hears from us in St. Catharines and Niagara, that we are concerned and want him to stop the cuts. Please email, phone or write Jim Bradley and tell him that we expect him to stand up for hospital care in our region and to stop the cuts.

CLOSING EMERGENCY ROOMS IN NIAGARA
The province is closing hospitals in Fort Erie and Port Colborne, downsizing medical services in Welland, closing surgical beds across the region to save money. Birthing and mental health services are being cut across the peninsula - all these patients will have to travel into St. Catharines, further overcrowding the hospitals there.

The Province is supposedly making these cuts to save money. Yet the new regional hospital slated for completion around 2013 in St. Catharines will cost 759 million dollars, up from the initial plan of 305 million dollars !! And when the entire mortgage is paid up after 30 years it will have cost 1.5 billion dollars... now that's government savings for you ! How will Fort Erie, Port Colborne, Welland residents get to a hospital in time for an Emergency ? Many may not. Lives will be lost.

This "restructuring" will result in a net LOSS of hospital services for our whole region.
