Feminist Action St. Catharines!
As a feminist collective, our focus will always be on thinking critically about sexist oppression, and empowering women in our community through research, education and direct action. We understand that sexism is just one force of oppression that affect women. Feminism is an approach that understands that all oppressions are interlocking. That being said, our focus will primarily be on explicitly women-oriented research and programming, but will always include a perspective that acknowledges women's diverse experiences and issues. With International Women's day fast approaching, there are ample opportunities for volunteers to get involved. Currently are plans for women week, March 2nd- March 8th, include DIY pad workshops, Women's natural health workshop, documentary showings, all women's open mic at Strega, and benefit production of the Vagina Monologues! Feminist Action is a group of women and men who are committed to identifying and challenging the interlocking forms of oppression that marginalize women in our community through group meetings, workshops and direct action. Particular issues that will be focused on include: positive sexuality and body image, women's health, and fighting against violence against women.
